Oola glared at her grandfather’s boat until it was swallowed by the amber horizon. Her own plastic vessel drifted in the shallows beside the harbour. The captain had fallen overboard again, seaweed tangling in his fur. Oola vowed they would try again tomorrow.

Her claws gripped branches as the children walked below. She pounced weeping, for she was a mother too.
She cringed as he carried her across the river. Scared of water… She was the worst kelpie ever!
Her talent show song provoked unprecedented regulatory complaints. Mortified she offered apologies to shipwreck survivors and abandoned lovers.
The cat mewled beneath the boy’s boot. Being the bully actually felt good.
He was still crying though.
